Architecture and engineering

This section shows the services offered by the Padua-based company C&G Engineering Service in the civic area.

 Services

Design and construction of industrial plants such as:
  • hydraulic installations (water and steam)
  • cogeneration plants;
  • vacuum systems;
  • zinc plants;
  • water and waste water treatment plants.
Design and construction of sports facilities such as:
  • tennis courts
  • covers for tennis courts
  • covers for five-a-side football pitches;
  • swimming pool covers.

Architecture and engineering department

The civic area offers clients a variety of services: from the design of technological systems to the construction of lightweight structures or buildings, particularly in the industrial sector.

The engineering services offered by C&G range over the construction field: from the foundations to the technical systems of a building. Specialist technicians and engineers follow the construction step by step, managing safety on site, supervising the works and monitoring all the companies involved in the construction.

The civil department is also employed in projects commissioned by national public or private organisations as well as in Europe, Africa and Asia.

 Pressure structures

Pressostats are widely used for the seasonal covering of sports fields, swimming pools, tennis courts and any other application where the covering of large spaces is required without the presence of supporting structures; in fact, pressostats only require simple anchorage to the ground by means of a small concrete foundation or stakes.

    For reasons of personal safety, small columns are used to support the cover, so as to prevent it from falling in the event of sudden deflation.

    The cover can be made of a double membrane to improve thermal insulation and allow considerable energy savings when it is necessary to heat the inside of the structure; in this regard, we would like to remind you that the heating unit for winter is available as an option in the inflating unit to allow the inside to be heated and made comfortable.

    The entrances to the sports facilities and the emergency exits are made with double doors (bushings) with an airlock; these are necessary to keep the structure under pressure and to allow easy and safe access.

    Lamp holders can be hung on the inside of the membranes for lighting; this can be designed and adapted according to the customer's needs, to allow correct and uniform illumination of the internal environment without annoying glare and shaded areas.

Arched structures

C&G Engineering Service's arch structures are particularly popular for covering sports fields, gyms and swimming pools.
  • Find out more

    The structures, which can be realised with a span of 20-25 m, are composed of arches made of glued laminated fir wood of 1st category DIN 1052 (structures with steel arches are also available) joined by means of connecting rafters (purlins) made of 2nd category wood or steel.

    The arches can have two or three hinges, two at the base and one at the top; the roofing membrane on the arches is stretched at the sides, along the eaves beams and at the heads, so as to create the curtain wall with matching shapes. The side walls, up to 3 metres long, can be opened with a sheet or with double-glazed windows.

    The cover is made of high-frequency welded, class 2 PVC fabric (fireproof and self-extinguishing); the design can be customised according to architectural requirements.

Marquees

The tensile structures made by the company in Padua, either fixed or removable, can be used as uniform roofs for open spaces for creative activities.

    The maximum span of the structure is 30 metres, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications.

    The PVC sheet can be used to form multiform roofs, the only condition being that the surfaces must be double-curved to achieve tensioning.

    For reasons of personal safety, small columns are used to support the roofing sheet so that it does not fall in the event of sudden deflation.

Modelling

The roofing membranes (tarpaulins) for tensile structures, marquees and inflatable roofs are modelled using programmes developed by C&G Engineering Service, which make it possible to create modern architectural forms.
  • Find out more

    In the case of tensile structures, there is a requirement to have double-curved surfaces opposed to each other to ensure tensioning.

    For modelling, again using automatic processing programs, the pins for the membrane are obtained by interfacing with the automatic cutting table.

    The experience we have allows us to make corrections for elongations and welding problems to be taken into account.

    The modelling also determines the stresses as a function of snow or wind loads, which allows the dimensioning of the reinforcement of the membrane at the most stressed points. The loads due to snow, wind and earthquake are defined in accordance with legal requirements (wind/snow: Ministry of Public Works Circular of 4 July 1996; earthquake: Prime Ministerial Order 3274 of 20/03/2003 and subsequent additions).
